We have had a great time making pictures with natural objects and the autumn colours are so beautiful at the moment.
Andy Goldsworthy is an environmental artist and you can see lots of his work if you look on his website.
If you get time in the holidays you can collect leaves, nuts, berries etc and have another go at making a picture. Have fun!
Month: October 2013
Thursday 24th October
We measured everything in sight! It was different measuring with tape measures and we wondered why we got different results when we measured the perimeter of the playground with the trundle wheel and a tape measure. We also took accurate measurements to find out who is the tallest Badger.
Miss Paterson had a strings trio today, cellos and violin playing together in nearly perfect harmony!
We finished off our letter writing to the children at Titchmarsh Primary School and decorated them with some very fancy stickers!
We went to Warmington Post Office to buy a stamp for our letter to the council. On the way there we saw one of our old friends who is in year 5! We bought a stamp from Mr Forrest and posted the letter.
Eco – Action Team had their meeting outside as it was such a beautiful day. We have decided to have our meetings over a ‘working lunch’ every three weeks like Titchmarsh children do.
Wednesday 23rd October
We had our conker challenge, measured with metre rulers, tried to follow instructions and some of us finished off our letter writing to the council and Titchmarsh School. One year 4 was so speedy he managed to make a christening card for Prince George! Madame Kernick took us for French and we song some really fun songs!
We played Dodge Ball in the hall with Kirsty. It was Kirsty’s last day today as she is starting a new job next week.
There were lots of birthdays to celebrate when Mr Rogers came into assembly!
Our Magnificent Mural!
Mr Slater has finished the mural in the hall that we worked on with Titchmarsh School on our sharing day- we love it!
Tuesday 22nd October
Today we measured anything that didn’t move! We started writing formal letters to the council and informal letters to our friends at Titchmarsh. We challenged ourselves by estimating how many conkers could make a metre and looking at who lived nearest and furthest from school. We had an amazing show and tell PowerPoint about Brownies followed by a quiz with prizes, more Internet safety and a very special assembly- Miss Aldous told us about the new I- pad minis and showed us Apple T.V. on the huge television in the hall…all very exciting stuff!
The Eco – Action Team told us about the mini-scarecrow competition as well, a half term activity to keep us busy when we are off school!
Monday 21st October
Lots of measuring today, using cm, mm, metres, conkers and cubes…it was wet break and Some year 4’s couldn’t stop working and measured the Central Area using the trundle wheel.
After break it was literacy and we started to look at letter writing. We all learnt to set out an address correctly so we can impress our Grandmas when we write them thank you letters after Christmas. We also looked at Madame Kernick’s son’s blog as he cycles to Shanghai in China.
We had some special guests to play at lunchtime…it was lovely to see Isobel, Rose and Henry again (and of course Sakari!)
After lunch we found out it was quite tricky to colour code our work to show that we spend our school day in different areas of the school. Mr Slater continued to work on the amazing mural in the school hall!
Athletics in the hall before assembly, art club and Olympic club- another busy day for Badgers!
Terrific Sharing Day with Titchmarsh Primary School
What an amazing day we have had hosting the children and staff from Titchmarsh! We all took part in a huge variety of amazing activities including circus skills, mural painting, science, poetry, clown driving (like beetle driving) and lots of talking! We made lots of new friends and enjoyed the fantastic atmosphere. We are looking forward to seeing our new friends again – hopefully before we go to the Frontier Centre…. What an exciting year ahead!
